CoreStreet's SpoofStick Surpasses 115,000 Download Milestone

Free Anti-Phishing Tool Earns Devoted Following and Industry Support

CAMBRIDGE, MA (August 3, 2004)

CoreStreet's SpoofStick, a browser extension that helps combat the growing problem of Internet Phishing, has been downloaded more than 115,000 times, the company announced today. A leading provider of validation solutions for identity management and access control, CoreStreet has been offering a free version of the browser extension on the Website at www.spoofstick.com.

Internet Phishing is a growing problem in the United States and around the world. Research firm Gartner released a study in May in which analysts estimated that more than 57 million consumers have received a Phishing email in the last year, and project that 1.8 million people have provided the sensitive financial information requested in these emails.

"The key is education. Consumers should know which Website they are visiting, before they provide sensitive information. SpoofStick does that in a simple way," said CoreStreet President . "We're pleased that the technology has raised the situational awareness of where consumers are on the Web."

SpoofStick works by clearly displaying the high-level domain of the site being visited, giving users the information they need to avoid being fooled. While a site may look like one created by Citibank, if SpoofStick does not say "You're on Citibank.com" then it's not a real Citibank site.

In addition to garnering more than 115,000 users, SpoofStick has also been lauded by media and analysts. In his written work in PC World and in discussion on the TV program The Screen Savers, Steve Bass called the browser extension, "nice and simple." He continued, saying that SpoofStick is, "a no-brainer to use. It sits on your browser toolbar and helps you detect spoofed websites by showing exactly the site you've landed on, not the one that appears to be on your screen."

Carol Baraoudi, CEO of Baroudi Bloor International and author of the Internet for Dummies is also a fan. "E-mail fraud is on the rise - innocent people are being duped every day - it makes me crazy. SpoofStick lets you see just where you're being taken - in every sense of the word. I want the world to be using SpoofStick."

Fits Most Browsers

SpoofStick works like a standard toolbar on Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers, has multiple size and display settings, and can show both the top level and secondary level domains of any Web site. The program does not include any spyware or adware, and because it doesn't send any information to any external entity, SpoofStick is free from some of the performance and privacy questions raised by other approaches. In the future, CoreStreet may incorporate SpoofStick technology into other commercial products.

SpoofStick is currently available as a download at www.spoofstick.com.
